Recently, the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has launched the Global Patent Search Network, an online free patent search service that will provide translations of patents granted in one or more countries and languages. Through the concerted effort of United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) the steps used to conduct patent research will be more detailed.
The Global Patent Search Network tool enable the user to search and retrieve Chinese patent documents in the English or Chinese language. The patent data available will include full text Chinese patents and English machine translations. Now anyone can search patent documents including published applications, granted patents and utility models from the year 2008 to 2011.
However, English machine translation of the Chinese patent documents has it own limitations. Many a times, the translated sentences doesn’t make any sense to the user. None the less English machine translation provides the summary of the patent invention and provides fast analysis to determine relevant prior art document.
